Just call me Maggott

I asked him about it. My mentor, my pal, the one who would sit in my room for hours and ask me to look up parts for him. We were in Korea, he was dreaming of VW parts for his bug. He would tell me the same things over and over again, show me different color combos, I mean come on.

He was my friend. One that I would climb a mountain just to die for. I'm not sure how it got to be that way. He never was my leader but he was that guy that was a half step ahead of me. I was a black hat after him, I was an OC after him, I was a 1SG after him. He was my predecessor. Many times I learned what not to do from him. Not because he wasn't good, but we all make mistakes. He was my friend and we learned.

Maggott wasn't his initial name. He had another name. A different given name.

He changed his name to Maggott. I asked him one day. Why? Why'd you change your name to Robert Maggott.

He said, you know Will. I wanted to stand on my own two feet. I want to make my own name and do my own thing. Nothing against nobody else, but this is my life and my terms. My mom and dad are cool with it. They get it. Ain't like it was a whole big deal. I chose Maggott, you know, Maggott.

He wanted to be called Maggott so that he could rise from the ashes on his own.

Dude, I love you JM, 1SG, Battle Buddy, Barber, Mentor, Friend! I love you! You and you wonderful momma there sure rose!
